Overcoming Your Resistance to Being a Successful Author

One reason things don't seem to improve is that the subconscious mind wants consistency. It feels safer doing the same thing over and over again, even if that thing keeps you stuck and unhappy. So you go year after year stuck in the "same old same old." And you keep wondering what is wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with you. It's just some bad programming. Well, programming can be changed. There are lots of tools to help you: hypnosis, self-hypnosis, Guided Visualization, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), also known as Tapping. I'll be sharing more about these techniques in future posts. For now I would like to discuss Affirmations. You may have heard of affirmations and even tried doing them, with mixed, or even no, results. In order for affirmations to work, they need to be in the present tense, stating what you want, not what you don't want. For example, don't say "I don't procrastinate," which is ineffective. The subconscious mind does not understand a negative. When you say "I don't procrastinate" it hears "I procrastinate." Instead, say something like, "I write every day." or "I make time to write every day." Affirmations should not be in the future tense because that keeps the good results in the future. They are going to happen some day. But someday never comes. Some people feel that it helps to create affirmations that include both tenses, to give sense of immediacy and to keep the subconscious mind from getting confused by affirming that something exists in your life that clearly doesn't, at this time. An example of how to include both tenses is, "I am a successful writer and I am becoming more and more successful every day." Experiment, to see what gives you the best results. Welcome to this blog. I hope to share some ideas with you that can help you to take your writing career to a higher level. I believe that it takes two elements to make the Law of Attraction work--the inner level, which includes your beliefs and attitudes, and the outer level, which is composed of your actions in the outer world. This blog will explore both. Until next time...
